The success of GCMS 8th Grade Transition Day has put the school and Curriculum Coordinator Tracie Johnston in the state spotlight. Johnston has been invited to speak at the Kentucky School Counselor Association (KSCA) Conference this fall in Lexington.
The annual event gives 8th graders an inside track on future careers and reaching their goals through planning, preparation and focus in both coursework and activities.
Students hear from GCHS seniors and administrators, as well as an impressive lineup of homegrown and statewide pros as they begin thinking about their careers and how their path through high school impacts their plans.
Soft skills such as communication, a strong work ethic, teamwork and continual learning are the common thread emphasized by all as highly-desired - and required - qualities for success in any workplace or setting.
